It's Purty Darn Cold Out Dar

Geez! Does anyone have warm feet? If you do, I want your secret!! My feet have been cold for the last week and I just can't get them warmed up (probably because Jason has been in Indy and I don't have his back to put them on - that always warms them up quick like)!

I have a quick question for anyone who reads this silly ole blog. I wanna know two things actually. Ready?

1. What is your favorite childhood winter time memory.

Mine is ice skating at my Grandma's house. She lived on a lake and it really only got cold enough one time to freeze it solid enough to skate on (that I remember anyway). I remember Grandpa testing the ice before he let us go out on it. He took a big ole concrete block out to the center of the area where we would be skating and held it up over his head and slammed it down with all of his strength. He didn't fall in so he let us skate. That was so much fun!

2. What is your favorite go to winter time recipe. It doesn't have to be healthy, just something that you only make in the winter that is a favorite of yours.

Mine is taco soup.

In a slow cooker layer the following ingredients:

2 bonless skinless chicken breasts (frozen)
1 envelope of taco seasoning
1 envelope hidden valley ranch dressing mix
1 can rotel tomatoes & green chili's
1 can black beans, undrained
1 can great northern beans, undrained
1 can light or dark kidney beans, undrained
1 can Bush's vegetarian baked beans
1 can corn, undrained

Do not stir. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Before serving, remove chicken breasts and shred. Serve with sour cream and shredded cheese. This soup freezes well.

So there you go, you have my answers, now it is your turn. So get to answering. Seriously. Start Typing.

Thanks and have a wonderful evening :)

  1. 1. Jack Mason would hitch an old door to a tractor and haul all of the Mason and Koby kids thru the fields. Probably hellaciously dangerous but also fun as everything.

    2. Don't have the recipe and it's a total fat bomb....Mom would make yeast doughnuts at the first snow of the season, deep fry them until golden brown and light. There are no doughnuts out there to compare, so I don't bother. Also, we made snow ice cream and that was pretty yummy, too.

  2. 1.Jerri stole my favorite memory.Well, actually, we share it. That sure was fun riding on that old door and the doughnuts were fantastic.

    2. My favorite winter recipe: make a cup of Swiss Mocha or hot chocolate and add a big swig of Bailey's Irish Cream. Yum yum!

  3. Probably my favorite winter memory as well as the riding on the door and the donuts, was the Christmas season I got a sting ray bicycle. It was also the year mom was pregnant with Paul. It was freezing cold but I didn't care. It was a brand new bike with a striped banana seat on it, totally awesome. I went outside in my pj's, no socks, no coat, nothing, went outside to ride that bike and ride I did. I took a slide on the ice and fell so hard that I had rocks inbedded in my knee cap. Some are still there. I was only worried about my bike, and when I got home and mom saw me with my damaged knee and blood all over the place, I don't think she was abit surprised. I was grinning ear to ear because I was so happy and delirious about the bike I did not pay any attention to the blood dripping off my knee. She proceeded to clean up my knee and all I could say to her was how great I thought she was in her state of being and able to clean up the blood and all. A cold winter memory I will never forget.

  4. This is true... I was with Dad in Evansville when he went to a bike shop to pick out a bike for Susan. When we found "THE" bike and also the striped banana seat, I told him that I didn't want any presents if they would get that bike for Susan. And you thought I didn't love you, Hoo-hah! (that was Paul's name for Susan). And I remember those banged-up knees, too!

  5. 1. This is really strange but I don't have any real memories of my childhood, never have. I really believe I do not have a long term memory what so ever. You could tell me something happened and I was there and I would believe you, sad I know.

    2. winter recipe, I made sugar cookies every once in a while. I must do this less often as we eat the ENTIRE batch in less than 2 days.

    Lori,

Oooooh, your roll-ups were delicious, I tried a similar variation of them with tomato-basil tortillas and it was a hit for lunch! I am going to copy down your recipe for taco soup and the pancakes. Thank you!

  6. Kristy- I'm glad you liked them :) I just made some oatmeal applesauce muffins that were really good. I'll try to get that recipe on here soon. I also made some mac and cheese that was terrible :( That is how it goes, you can't hit a home run every time you bat!
